Aerial Fitness

AERIAL FITNESS is a perfect way to change-up your fitness routine! We offer Hammock classes (silks that are hung from the ceiling that are connected to created a swing or “hammock”); and Aerial Silks (two silks connected at the top but not the bottom). These apparatuses utilize your body strength to control and safely execute climbs, drops and wraps-much like you see performed in various aerial acrobatic circus groups! All of these classes are excellent cross-training for pole or aerial hoop, but no experience in either us necessary! All classes are tailored for each level of student.

Class Descriptions

Aerial Hammock 1

Aerial hammock uses one piece of fabric that is suspended from the ceiling. This class will help tone, strengthen and increase flexibility while teaching you seamless sequences to begin your practices in the aerial arts! This is a beginner class to teach you the basic technique and poses in the aerial hammock. This class is recommended for students who are brand new to hammock or who are just beginning their aerial journey.

Aerial Hammock 2

Aerial hammock uses one piece of fabric that is suspended from the ceiling. This class will help tone, strengthen and increase flexibility while teaching you seamless sequences to begin your practices in the aerial arts! This is a beginner to beginner-intermediate level class. This class is suitable for clients who have been taking a few classes and are comfortable performing moves such as standing in the hammock and inverts.

Advanced Aerial Hammock

This is an intermediate level class building upon the beginner 1 and 2 classes. You will want to know your basic tricks such as crossback straddle, belay, flagpole and aerial inverts, as we learn to progress into more intermediate level tricks and transitions. Students will advance at their own pace and the instructor will modify moves to fit each students level.

Aerial Silks (All Levels)

Aerial silks uses open silks which is two pieces of fabric anchored from the ceiling. This is more similar style to what you would see in something like Cirque du Soleil. In this class we will focus on climbing, wraps, inverts, drops and various other aerial silks tricks. This class is suitable for all levels and the instructor will modify to fit each students level. Students progress at their own pace.

Intro to Aerial Yoga

This is a beginner level class which uses the silks in a low level position to help introduce the student to the fabric and aerial yoga. It offers easy use for students to help gain confidence lower to the ground before moving up to a higher level fabric, but still pushes the body towards better flexibility and a more open mind.

Aerial Conditioning and Flexabilty

Perfect for all levels of an aerialist that looks to enhance their movement as well as their overall fitness! We will train Splits, Inversions, Pull-Ups and Pull Strength, Core-work, and proper technique and engagement. All levels beginner to advanced welcome, but having some experience in aerial hammock, aerial yoga, or aerial hoop is recommended.

Aerial Yoga

This is an all-levels class where students use aerial hammocks to gently support aerial poses and mindful stretches. Aerial yoga is a great foundation for aerial dance. You will learn many of the aerial postures while focusing on conditioning, strength building, flexibility, inverting and balance, which are all very important to aerial dance. This class ends with a long relaxation stage in the hammock cocoon.

Candlelit Restorative Aerial Yoga

Candlelit restorative aerial yoga is done with the hammocks low to the ground by candle light. This is a gentle practice using various yoga props such as blankets, blocks and bolsters, in addition to the aerial hammock. These propers will help assist you in your practice so that you can fully surrender into the postures allowing you to hold them for longer periods of time. This class is the perfect way to wind down from your day and calm your body and mind for a more restful night.

**Please note the first 15 minutes of class are spent fitting you to your fabric so that you can properly do poses low to the ground.

Open Practice Time

Open studio time to come and work on your tricks on your own time. Someone will be around to monitor, but there will be no instruction at this time. This is a time to work on the moves you have already learned during class time. Must be a member of Be Fitness for open practice. If you are not a member or are from out of town, please call us for approval to attend open practice. Open practice rate is free for members and $15 per hour for non-members once approved.

Melissa

Melissa started taking pole in March 2019 and got certified to teach Pole 1 & 2 in February 2020. She struggled to find a workout that she really enjoyed until she found Pilates. She came to Be for reformer but had to try pole. She instantly loved it!

She has a background in dance and cheerleading and the pole tricks and combos offer a similar fun and challenging workout that she really enjoys!

She started teaching in June 2020. She is a school teacher by day! She loves helping others learn new skills and achieve their goals. She wants her students to feel strong and confident starting wherever they are in their practice so they can work together to set goals.

She mostly enjoys strength based tricks/spins & conditioning. Her goal is to work on creating mini combos that include each individual trick taught in class to integrate the dance portion.

Outside of the studio Melissa enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, exploring different types of music, reading, cooking, learning how to care for my plants, home projects.

DiDi

Didi started her yoga journey at the beginning of college, after her flute professor recommended it to build breath support. She found the practice and discipline allowed her to breathe better, develop a deeper connection to her body, and built confidence. After discovering Yoga for All Musicians, she decided to get certified in yoga in hopes of giving her flute students these tools to succeed.

After moving back to Cleveland, she was able to dive even deeper into her newfound love for movement. She has gone on to learn and teach aerial yoga, aerial hammock, hoop, yoga, barre, pole, and pilates. Her training comes from many studios, but her training begins at the Arizona Circus School. She now travels to compete.

Didi loves challenging her students and making students aware of their own body. She stresses the importance of movement for ALL of her students – her musicians AND those in the studio! Her goal is to empower, strengthen and challenge all of her students, no matter what the class.

Outside of the studio, Didi is a flutist, artist, and drives a Zamboni. She holds a Bachelors of Music and a K-12 Teaching License, and will be completing a B.A. in Studio Art and a Masters of Arts Management and Cultural Entrepreneurship.
