Aerial Dance

AERIAL DANCE is the perfect addition to your fitness routine. We offer classes in aerial silks and aerial hammock, ribbons that are suspended from the ceiling as either one or two pieces, to perform various circus and aerial acrobatic tricks. Aerial silks utilizes full body strength and control to safely execute different climbs, drops and wraps. This class is perfect cross-training for pole or aerial hoop students, but no experience is necessary to attend your first class. Each student progresses at a different level and classes are tailored individually to each student.

Class Descriptions

Beginner Aerial Hammock 1

Aerial hammock uses one piece of fabric that is suspended from the ceiling. This class will help tone, strengthen and increase flexibility while teaching you seamless sequences to begin your practices in the aerial arts! This is a beginner class to teach you the basic technique and poses in the aerial hammock. This class is recommended for students who are brand new to hammock or who are just beginning their aerial journey.

Beginner Aerial Hammock 2

Aerial hammock uses one piece of fabric that is suspended from the ceiling. This class will help tone, strengthen and increase flexibility while teaching you seamless sequences to begin your practices in the aerial arts! This is a beginner to beginner-intermediate level class. This class is suitable for clients who have been taking a few classes and are comfortable performing moves such as standing in the hammock and inverts.

Intermediate Aerial Hammock

This is an intermediate level class building upon the beginner 1 and 2 classes. You will want to know your basic tricks such as crossback straddle, belay, flagpole and aerial inverts, as we learn to progress into more intermediate level tricks and transitions. Students will advance at their own pace and the instructor will modify moves to fit each students level.

Aerial Silks (All Levels)

Aerial silks uses open silks which is two pieces of fabric anchored from the ceiling. This is more similar style to what you would see in something like Cirque du Soleil. In this class we will focus on climbing, wraps, inverts, drops and various other aerial silks tricks. This class is suitable for all levels and the instructor will modify to fit each students level. Students progress at their own pace.

Intro to Aerial Yoga

This is a beginner level class which uses the silks in a low level position to help introduce the student to the fabric and aerial yoga. It offers easy use for students to help gain confidence lower to the ground before moving up to a higher level fabric, but still pushes the body towards better flexibility and a more open mind.

Aerial Yoga

This is an all-levels class where students use aerial hammocks to gently support aerial poses and mindful stretches. Aerial yoga is a great foundation for aerial dance. You will learn many of the aerial postures while focusing on conditioning, strength building, flexibility, inverting and balance, which are all very important to aerial dance. This class ends with a long relaxation stage in the hammock cocoon.

Candlelit Restorative Aerial Yoga

Candlelit restorative aerial yoga is done with the hammocks low to the ground by candle light. This is a gentle practice using various yoga props such as blankets, blocks and bolsters, in addition to the aerial hammock. These propers will help assist you in your practice so that you can fully surrender into the postures allowing you to hold them for longer periods of time. This class is the perfect way to wind down from your day and calm your body and mind for a more restful night.

**Please note the first 15 minutes of class are spent fitting you to your fabric so that you can properly do poses low to the ground.

Open Practice Time

Open studio time to come and work on your tricks on your own time. Someone will be around to monitor, but there will be no instruction at this time. This is a time to work on the moves you have already learned during class time. Must be a member of Be Fitness for open practice. Emily G

Emily loves all aspects of aerial dance but, when it comes to choreography, she prefers to keep it slightly more aggressive. She likes fast paced, high silk climbing with dramatic drops. She loves aerial silks because of the endless possibilities that they provide to express yourself. You can be great at floor work and incorporate a lot of it in your routines. Or you can be awful at floor work and focus more on aerial tricks. Your dance style can be graceful or aggressive, or a mix of both. The creativity is endless!

Emily started doing aerial silks as a fun, easy way to work out because she hated going to the gym. She had no idea how much it would become a part of her life! She has been doing aerial silks since 2012 and teaching since 2015. She hopes that her students gain the tools they need to find their own style of dance, while also pushing their limits to conquer routines and transitions that they may not master right away.

Outside of aerial silks, Emily loves her pets and rescuing fur babies. She likes to ride her motorcycle and she also has three kids who take up most of her time. They spend their weekends camping, fishing, and boating. She has a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Cleveland State University and really just loves anything science related.

Brittney

Brittney first started her yoga journey in 2011 because she struggled with high anxiety and chronic stress. Yoga helped change her life for the better; she grew both physically and mentally because of the practice. She learned so much about herself through mindfulness and inner peace.

In today’s hectic world, Brittney wants to offer her students a chance to calm their minds and relax their bodies through the art of aerial yoga. Her goal is to guide her students through a series of yoga poses and stretches that increase flexibility, balance and strength. She create judgment-free classes where people with all levels of experience can feel safe and comfortable to practice yoga.

Rachael

Rachael’s aerial style is dramatic. She loves to dance to darker song lyrics to show there is grace through life’s toughest times. She started her aerial journey with pole dance because she wanted to exercise in a way that created art. For a long time she struggled with severe depression and with the help of pole she was taken off of medicine and found joy in every aspect of life. Rachael’s favorite thing about aerial arts is the expression of love for one’s self. She learned to love herself through depression because of pole. She wants to share that love with her students and hopes that her students feel encouraged in class. She wants them to know that they are capable of amazing things they did not know they could do. Rachael has been involved in aerial arts since 2015 and started teaching in the spring of 2017.

Outside of Be Fitness, Rachael enjoys knitting, adventuring to new places, trying new foods and working to make others’ lives more fulfilling. She also loves to design clothing and studied fashion at the University of Akron.
